P.E.
At Shaw Hill Primary School we believe that Physical Education is a vital and unique part of the curriculum. It develops children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so that they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities. Physical Education promotes an understanding in children of their bodies in action. It involves thinking, selecting and applying skills and promotes positive attitudes towards a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling them to make informed choices about physical activity throughout their lives.
Intent- At Shaw hill the intent of teaching Physical Education is to give children the tools to lead healthy and active lifestyles and the skills and understanding of a wide variety of sports. We promote the physical skills to enhance life-long fitness through a range of competitive, individual and team based activities. All of these skills are taught following the aims of the National Curriculum.
Implementation- P.E. is taught as a subject in its own right and integrated into other curriculum areas where appropriate. Alongside their P.E. lessons children are encouraged to develop their physical skills at break and lunchtimes, during afterschool clubs and on Sports Day. At Shaw Hill we follow a comprehensive programme of study throughout the whole school which follows a sequence of lessons that build on the children’s knowledge and skills and develop their fundamental movement skills. This develops their competency and confidence and allows them to flourish at sports in which they have a particular interest. Children are able to develop their communication, problem solving and resilience through all topics and are encouraged to think creatively and be reflective of their own performance.
Impact- Throughout their time at Shaw Hill pupils have the ability to acquire the skills and knowledge to develop high levels of physical fitness and an in depth understanding of Physical Education.
